For ubiquitous compounds, such as agrochemicals, food additives and industrial chemicals, it may be necessary to evaluate long term effects on the reproductive performance of future generations. In some cases no treatment‑related effects are observed in the F0 generation, but effects on F1 generation development, such as retarded sexual maturity, endocrine disruption and modified hepatic metabolizing enzyme activities, can lead to requirements for study prolongation to include F1 reproduction and F2 generation investigations.
