Pharmacological and toxicological effects on the skeleton (in-vivo and ex-vivo) are evaluated by expert histologists, clinical pathologists and board certified pathologists using state of the art apparatus. We have an extensive historical control data base, along with dedicated animal housing facilities and surgical suites. All procedures comply with international guidelines and GLP. Study plans are submitted for approval by our Ethics Committee

We use only high quality animals from strictly selected and audited breeders. Hematology, blood chemistry and radiography investigations, along with bone mineral density measurements are performed to select the most appropriate animals for your study, and guarantee data quality and reliability

Bone and joint research in rodents and non rodents includes :

  • Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) for the non invasive investigation of bone mineral density and for assessment of the effects of drugs on bone quality
  • Peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) for volumetric bone distribution measurement, with separate assessment of cortical and trabecular bone
  • Histomorphometry for characterization of bone architecture; measurement and image analysis of static and dynamic parameters to provide insight into mechanisms operating as a result of pharmacological treatment
  • Bone metabolism biomarkers in blood and urine; well established and validated assays for monitoring bone formation/resorption in response to treatment
  • Specialized techniques such as fracture models and contact radiography
